Voting extended in controversial Venezuelan polls

Voting has been extended by at least one hour in Venezuela's controversial elections for the Constituent Assembly, the National Electoral Council (CNE) announced Sunday evening.

Electoral council chief Sandra Oblitas said there were long lines at some polling stations and that people were waiting to exercise their right to vote. She also spoke of delays in some locations due to opposition protests.

Though she noted individual acts of of violence, she said the day had been "very positive," all told.

Opposition leader Henrique Capriles, meanwhile, charged that Sunday had been marked by "abstentions and repression."
