Turkey prepares to open the first museum dedicated to last year's deadly coup attempt. The museum is scheduled to open by the end of 2018.The venue, which will be built in capital Ankara's Kahramankazan district, will preserve the memory of fallen heroes as well as survivors of the coup attempt that killed 248 people.

The construction of the "July 15 museum," first announced a few weeks after the putsch bid was quelled, will be begin in late summer on a plot of land owned by the Culture and Tourism Ministry. It will be built on a space of 10,000 square meters in Kazan, renamed "Kahraman (Hero) Kazan" after the coup attempt for its residents' heroic struggle against coup plotters.

Townsfolk are credited with blocking pro-coup troops leaving Akıncı Air Base, which served as the command center of pro-coup officers. Locals set their crops on fire to block the visibility of fighter jets taking off from the base and landing there and parked their tractors at the entrance of the base to prevent the exit of pro-coup troops.Anadolu Agency (AA) reported that exhibitions with interactive and visual presentations, personal belongings of coup "martyrs" and those who survived will be included in the museum which will also host a conference hall and a library.
