Istanbul to have a city museum


The megacity Istanbul will welcome a city museum that will exclusively showcase Istanbul's cultural and historical heritage soon. Described as "the project of the century," the city museum will present stunning models of the Marmaray railway, the Süleymaniye Mosque, Hagia Sofia and the Bosporus Bridge.There will also be models of nostalgic trams, movie theaters, minibuses, checker cabs and İETT buses, all of which have become an indispensable part of urban city life. The past and present of Istanbul will be on display in 46 different sections along with a planetarium. Construction will start in the area beside the 1453 Panorama Museum.The new building will not only promote Istanbul's cultural beauties, but also geography, economy, agriculture, industry and cuisine. Visitors will have the chance to see different neighborhoods, including Taksim, Galata and Haydarpaşa. The colors of Istanbul's hectic life will without a doubt draw interest. Certain sections will be allocated to show previous natural disasters that occurred in Istanbul. Istanbul's 30 districts will have different sections installed with electronic platforms. The platforms will inform visitors about the projects of municipalities. Moreover, the images of sun, stars, planets and other astronomical objects will be reflected on the ceiling of a dome roof through a special projector. The planetarium will be designed in a way to simulate the movements of planets. Those who want to enhance their background in astronomy and space science are urged to visit.
