Moving image art fair to come to Istanbul after New York

Concurrently running with the upcoming contemporary art fair ArtInternational, the second year of Moving Image Istanbul at the Haliç Congress Center from Sept. 4 to Sept. 6 will invite a selection of international commercial galleries and nonprofit institutions to present single-channel videos, single-channel projections, video sculptures and other larger video installations. As a film-centric art fair, the event offers a viewing experience with the excitement and vitality of a fair while allowing moving image-based artworks to be understood and appreciated in their own terms. It will include many world premieres of artists from both Turkey and other countries.Among this year's guests are Zeyno Pekünlü, Leo Gabin from New York, Carlos Jimenez Cahua from Boston, Wu Ding from Chengdu and Joao Castilho from Sao Paulo. The fair will introduce a special historical selection showcasing work by Ana Mendieta and Martha Wilson from New York. Large installations include works by Kon Trubkovich and Michael Nyman. Among the special events sponsored by Moving Image Istanbul are Bring Your Own Beamer (BYOB) at Pera Museum and a screening of "Ways of Something," a project by Lorna Mills. BYOB is a one-night performance by unrepresented, emerging Turkish film and video artists who will take over the ground floor gallery hall of Pera Museum in an improvised installation. Curated by Maybe Art Projects, BYOB will run on Sept. 4. Brooklyn-based Transfer Gallery will present a special screening of "Ways of Something" compiled by Lorna Mills on Sept. 6. The fair had already run in New York and London.
