Studio X presents architecture from past to present

The exhibition ‘Microcosmos' will be displayed at Studio X until March 4, bringing the professional practice of architecture into the limelight

This month at Studio X Istanbul, there is a new retrospective exhibition that will excite not only architects but also those who want to observe the pathways of Turkey's recent urban and cultural past. Deniz Aslan and Sevim Aslan, doyennes of landscape architecture and documentation, respectively, come together at the studio with more than 25 years of experience under the umbrella of DS Architecture. The exhibition focuses on the production and thinking methods behind projects rather than ones that have been completed. The management of a versatile office and the changes it has gone through are told from the viewpoints of different actors they have worked with. This exhibition, whose curation and design are managed by PATTU, is based on this multidimensionality.Mapping a 30-year period to display a summary of architecture and construction in Turkey, the exhibition also focuses on leading subjects, such as changing scales and project production processes in landscaping and documentation as well as Turkey's transition to the liberal economy within this period.Founded in Istanbul as an initiative of Columbia University on the basis of numbered cities around the world, Studio X Istanbul aims to define present problems and those that the city may encounter in the future, and create new methods of problem solving for their solutions. Within this framework, Studio X Istanbul is creating a new platform that will facilitate information exchange among experts, universities, nongovernmental organizations and local authorities. Sponsored by Borusan Holding, the Enka Foundation and ATU Duty Free, Studio X Istanbul is working in coordination with Columbia Global Centers-Turkey, which conducts projects with all faculties of Columbia University.
