Pera Museum transforms art lovers into paintings via Blippar app

Pera Museum now features an "Augmented Reality" experience with a brand new interactive digital platform known as Blippar. By placing the faces of visitors into those of characters in four different paintings, the application allows art lovers to see themselves as subjects in art pieces. Guests are welcome to participate in Pera Museum's entertaining event as of April 1, or April Fools' Day.Through collaboration with Blippar, Pera Museum brings the real and digital worlds together with four different paintings in the Orientalist Painting Collection, providing a unique experience for visitors. Using the free downloadable application, visitors point their smartphone camera at the painting and the software swaps their faces with the faces in the painting. Pera Museum is inviting their guests to share the images produced via the Blippar app with the #müzedeselfie and #perahatırası hashtags on international April Fools' Day.Downloadable on iOS, Android or Windows mobile devices, the Blippar app operates with augmented reality, artificial intelligence, visual deep machine learning and programming technologies. Defined as "Augmented Reality and Visual Search," Blippar creates striking interactive digital experiences by scanning every material and object in our physical world and uniting the real and digital worlds. The Orientalist Painting Collection, which has brought the Blippar app to Turkish museums for the first time, is one Turkey's richest collections. The Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation's collection includes works by European painters who depicted the Ottoman Empire and the landscapes of Turkey from the 17th century to the early-20th century, along with works by Ottoman artists that reflect the interaction during the same period. As of April 1, art lovers can experience the "Interacting Worlds: Ambassadors and Painters" exhibition by being part of the paintings, rather than watching them from the outside.
