'Shakespeare Lives' through anniversary events

English playwright and poet William Shakespeare is commemorated on the 400th anniversary of his death through his work, organized by ‘Shakespeare Lives,' a global organization to commemorate the famous English bard. The program features revolutionary theater and dance performances, film screenings, international art exhibitions and a series of educational resources for those interested in learning English



The British Council commemorates British bard William Shakespeare on the 400th anniversary of his death. As part of the commemoration, the institution launched a series of international events - "Shakespeare Lives" - on April 23, which is believed to be the day of his birth and death. The Turkish leg of the commemoration features various cultural activities from stage plays to film screenings, radio programs and digital campaigns. Shakespeare Lives is a unique, global program focusing on the effect of Shakespeare's works on culture, education and the public.Ankara International Film FestivalThe first event of the Turkish leg of the program kicks off at the Ankara International Film Festival with screenings of director Laurence Olivier's 1948 film adaptation of "Hamlet" and the video of Lindsey Turner's 2015 stage production of "Hamlet," starring Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch, for Shakespeare lovers in Ankara.All deaths in Shakespeare's masterpieces on stageThe 17 deaths in Shakespeare's plays will be featured in one stage production. Starring the four clever, funny clowns of Spymonkey, the most extraordinary theater company in the U.K., "The Complete Deaths" comes to Turkey in May just three days after its premiere in the U.K., as part of the 20th Istanbul Theater Festival, featuring professional workshops as well.'Shakespeare Lives' Film CollectionAs part of the Shakespeare Lives series, the British Council supported the production of a number of Shakespeare-inspired films.
