Burhan Doğançay's photos to go on display in Taipei


Painter and photographer Burhan Doğançay's exhibition "Picture the World" is to be showcased in Taiwan's capital city, Taipei. The exhibition, which has previously been displayed in Istanbul, Ankara, Porto and Lisbon, will open at the Taiwan National History Museum on Sept. 23."Picture the World" features photographs that the artist shot during his visit to Taiwan in 1989 in addition to photographs in other parts of the world, including those taken on the Brooklyn Bridge between 1986 and 1987 while the bridge was undergoing its first extensive maintenance.Doğançay, who considers the city walls as the mirrors of a community's socio-economic structure, was the only artist who was allowed on the bridge during the maintenance.These Brooklyn Bridge photos are characterized as extraordinary as the artist preferred to focus on Brooklyn instead of Manhattan. The exhibition tracks the city and people's social and psychological traces through Doğançay's lens and features photos from all over the globe from New York to Togo.
