Stravinsky's famous opera to be staged in Turkey for first time


"The Rake's Progress," composed by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, will be staged by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet (İDOB) for the first time in Turkey on Jan. 21.The opera, which is directed by Aytaç Manizade, will open curtains at the Kadıköy Municipality Süreyya Opera Stage. The choir will be conducted by Paolo Villa while the orchestra will perform under the baton of Can Okan and Kriss Russman.Starring Kenan Dağaşan, Ali Haydar Taş, Gülbin Günay, Otilia İpek, Caner Akın, Onur Turan, N. Işık Belen, Umut Tingür, Arzu Semerci, Peyman Yücelkan, Aylin Ateş, Jaklin Çarkçı, Özge Kalelioğlu, Ahmet Baykara, Çağrı Köktekin, Sercan Gazeroğlu and Yücel Özeke, "The Rake's Progress" focuses on the fall of Tom Rakewell who makes rakishness his business.Trusting the word of Nick Shadow, who is actually the embodiment of the Devil, Tom Rakewell leaves Anne Trulove whom he is supposed to get married to and travels to London to play the field. Rakewell, who gets into numerous troubles because of Shadow, ends up in an asylum in London.
