As part of the "Doublethink: Double vision" and Jose Sancho exhibitions, Pera Education continues the summer holiday with various unique and fun workshops full of art. The workshops organized between July 4 and July 17, targeting three age groups, 4 to 6, 7 to 12, and 13 to 17, aim to improve children and teenagers' creativity and the output from these workshops will be exhibited at the Pera Education Workshop in August and September.

Ages 4 to 6

At "Sancho's Nature", which perceives nature as a whole way of seeing and reflecting, participants will use "magical plastic" that easily and quickly takes the form desired to create 3-D animals and natural environments. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, July 4 and Wednesday, July 12 between 11 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

A discussion will be held with sculptor Jose Sancho about his childhood spent by the seaside and how the perfect order and the curving and wiggly movements of fish have been engraved in the visual memory of the artist at the Aquarium from Paper Plates workshop. Afterward, an aquarium will be designed using paper plates by taking inspiration from the artist's work "Black Small Shoal." The Aquarium from Paper Plates workshop targets children ages 4 to 6 and will be organized on Wednesday, July 5 and Tuesday, July 11 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Look Again workshop is inspired by the drawings of Estonian artist Merike Estna.Children will burst balloons filled with paint inside cardboard boxes and then create new abstract drawings and patterns by adding their own drawings to the repeated movements of the brush on Thursday, July 6 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Inspired by "Full Moon" by Marcel Dzama and Raymond Pettibon, children will paint plants and animals using colorful finger paint. The tubes used for marbling (ebru) will be used on a slippery ground, and after new patterns are created, these drawings will be transferred to Plexiglas piece by piece to create a much larger work. Discussions will take place on the patterns created at this workshop for ages 4 to 6 on Friday, July 7, and Thursday, July 13 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Based on Tracy Emin and Gavin Turk's neon works, which are a part of the "Doublethink: Double vision" exhibition, the Neon Letters workshop will provide information on neon artwork and participants will then create their own. The workshop will be organized in two stages. In the first stage, children will use a wool painting tool and will paint their dreams with neon acrylic paint. In the second stage, they will use a weaving technique and paint their initials with colorful pieces of wool. The workshop will be held on Saturday, July 8, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and on Sunday, July 16, between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Inspired by the giant pyramid at the entrance of the "Doublethink: Double Vision" exhibition, the Canvas! On top of One Another workshop will examine "Studio Wall Drawings" by Keith Tyson and participants will create their own reinterpretations. The two-stage workshop will first offer participants to design their own patterns through the use of oil pastels on canvas and then, by dripping ink and paint thinner, create their own abstract, colorful patterns and shapes. The canvases will be assembled into a pyramid at end of the workshop. The workshop will take place on Sunday, July 9, between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., and on Friday, July 14, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Ages 7 to 12

Workshops for children between the ages of 7 and 12 will focus on book cover designs with different techniques such as writing, drawing and recycling.

Just like for the younger age group, Costa Rican sculptor Jose Sancho's 2010 work "Small Shoal" inspires this workshop called Whole Lot of Fish. Children will make shapes made of wire to create various forms of fish. At the workshop to be held on Saturday, July 8, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., participants, along with creating abstract fish forms, will discuss Sancho's approach to nature and the emphasis of nature in his work.

The Wind-Bells workshop, inspired by Sancho's exhibition, will mainly discuss the importance of renewable energy while providing information on wind power.A wind-bell will be designed using soda bottle caps, and in the meantime, participants will learn and become more aware about recycling and enjoy being creative at the workshop to be held on Sunday, July 9, between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The My Colorful Watch workshop will have participants discuss the hours of the day and will kick off with a screening of "When the Heart Skips a Beat" by RAQS Media Collective, one of the artists in the "Doublethink: Double vision" exhibition. Colorful felt watches will be created at the workshop with sessions held on Friday, July 7, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and on Sunday, July 16, between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Another artist from the "Doublethink: Double Vision" exhibition, Erdem Taşdelen, will be the inspiration for the Where and What Would You Like to be? workshop. Participants will discuss professions, jobs, offices and workplaces from Taşdelen's business cards on Tuesday, July 11, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and design business cards of the professions of their dreams.

On Wednesday, July 12, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. youngsters will have a close look at "I'm Not Lichtenstein!" by Yuri Albert, a participant artist, and his comic book style, and will chat about expressions, poses, jests and mimics used at the My Storyboard workshop.

The Designing My Own Book Cover! workshop is inspired by Claire Fontaine's "Enfance et Histoire Brick". Participants will be able to create their own book covers with bricks on Thursday, July 13, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The work of Yangjiang Group, also included in the exhibition, will be the starting point for the Magic Ink: Chinese Art workshop examining the details of Chinese calligraphy. Brushes will be selected and ink will be prepared as if preparing for a ceremony, just like Chinese artists, and participants will prepare their own signatures at the workshop on Friday, July 14, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Participants will learn the basics of Chinese calligraphy and ink dipping techniques.

Pera Young is also hosting a workshop titled ABC of My Print House for ages 13 to 17 with Hera Büyüktaşçıyan of the "Doublethink: Double Vision" exhibition, which focuses on combining two languages in one text and also teaches the basic printing techniques used at printing houses. It will take place on Tuesday, July 4, Wednesday, July 5, and Thursday, July 6, between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Participants will create a giant text by printing letters prepared on paper.
