Istanbul Biennial has 'neighboring' event in Ankara


Under the curatorship of Elmgreen & Dragset, the 15th Istanbul Biennial is set to run between Sept. 16 and Nov. 12. Titled "a good neighbor," the biennial will be spread in the heart of the city, and will be open to visit at six neighboring venues within walking distance.

As part of the Biennial, the Museum Evliyagil, the first private modern art museum of Ankara, the capital of Turkey, will be hosting its first extensive exhibition after the event's opening.

Meanwhile, the 15th Istanbul Biennial's "neighbor" event "House" is getting ready to share the works of 38 artists with art lovers under the curatorship of Derya Yücel in Museum Evliyagil on Sept. 9.

"House" is a connective power for memory, personality, individual, family and identity but further, it makes possible to search for the concepts such as neighbor, neighborhood, city, society, environment, place, belonging and geography in inside and outside dialects.

The event, which will run until Feb. 4, 2018, presents a diagram that will be a guide to artists' thoughts, memories and dreams. It reinterprets the productions of the artists that have generational and artistic practices around the concept of "House."

The curatorial frame of the exhibition is based on a synthesis searching for crossings of art and artistic production practices beyond the variety, for the common expression beyond the uniqueness of image, for the formal dialogues beyond the conceptual contents' being multilayered.

Hosted by Museum Evliyagil, which renders multiple synthesis open to possibilities, "House" comprises of unique works from different collections.

"House" will exhibit the works of Eşref Üren, Yüksel Arslan, Komet, Can Akgümüş, Canan Tolon, Necla Rüzgar, Gözde İlkin, Fırat Engin and Yuşa Yalçıntaş.

It will include the productions of Ahmet Doğu İpek, Ahmet Duru, Berat Işık, Berkay Yahya, Can İncekara, Cemre Yeşil, Cengiz Tekin, Çağrı Saray, Deniz Gül, Erdağ Aksel, Erdal Duman, Erinç Seymen, Erol Eskici, Ferhat Özgür, Hale Tenger, Hakan Gürsoytrak, Hera Büyüktaşçıyan, İpek Duben, İnci Furni, İrfan Önürmen, Leyla Gediz, Nezaket Ekici, Nil Yalter, Nuri Kuzucan, Romina Meriç, Şifa Girinci, Onur Ceritoğlu, Yaşam Şaşmazer and Yunus Emre Erdoğan.
