With the eid holiday lasting until Sunday, art lovers can use their spare time to visit artistic institutions open to visitors on certain days and times over the weekend. In Istanbul, Pera Museum and Istanbul Modern are fine options, while Antalya Culture and Arts is a nice alternative for those who enjoy their vacation in the famous tourist destination of Antalya.
Art at Istanbul Modern
Those who are spending the holiday in Istanbul can set out on a journey full of art with the "Artists in Their Time" exhibition at Istanbul Modern.
The exhibition brings 109 artists from different geographies and 193 pieces together and focuses on the artists' position and work within the concept of time.
"Artists in Their Time" is based on the words of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar (1901-1962), one of Turkey's foremost intellectual and literary figures. The quote reads, "I am neither within time nor completely outside of it" and refers to the past, present and future of artists from different geographies. "Artists in Their Time" offers a road map to understand the existential journey of artists through the concept of time, which occupies the center of all Tanpınar's works.
Pera Museum's treasures
Pera museum is featuring the exhibitions "Intersecting Worlds," "Anatolian Weights and Measures" and "Coffee Break," all being held with the collections of Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation. While the museum offers the chance to see a painting of Mexican artist Almanza Pereda in the collection of "Intersecting Worlds," Pera Education is also open to visitors who want to fill their eid holiday with art via its exhibition "Summer Summer Summer."
While visiting the museum, visitors can view "Intersecting Worlds: Ambassadors and Painters," which introduces the ambassadors and painters of the 17th and 19th century as well as the "Osman Hamdi Beg" exhibition, "Anatolian Weights and Measures." This exhibition brings light to the 4,000-year history of trade and science.
The "Coffee Break: Kütahya Tile and Ceramics" collection, which focuses on the adventure of coffee through Kütahya ceramics features an audio guide by Mert Fırat for adults and by Meltem Cumbul and Yekta Kopan for children, which are both available for free with every ticket purchase.
The other exhibition open during Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice), "Summer Summer Summer," includes art created by children aged 4-17. The works, created in the workshops of Pera Education, were inspired by the exhibitions "Doublethink: Double Perspective" and "Jose Sancho: Erotic Nature," specifically focusing on the themes of nature and books.
A new installation by Pereda features a painting, whose owner is not known, stuck in cement within the 15th Istanbul Biennial and is among the additional work that can be visited during the holiday. The other work of Pereda will be exhibited after the biennial opening. Pera Museum will be closed on the first day of eid on Friday, Sept.1.
AKS Exhibitions for free
Antalya Culture and Arts (AKS) is opening its doors on the second and third days of the holiday for those who would like to experience the exhibitions "Portraits from the Empire" and "Ernst Krickl's Lykia Diary," which have been open since March. The exhibitions can be visited between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2 and Sunday, Sept. 3. Antalya Culture Art is closed in the first days of religious holidays and every Monday.
