Sabancı Museum kicks off adult education term


The fall term program of adult education offered by Sabancı University Sakıp Sabancı Museum has been announced. The first part of the three-part program, including English, starts with "Contemporary Art and Its Partners" today.

The historical development of contemporary art and its current situation will be discussed by artists throughout the five-week "Contemporary Art and Its Partners" program, which will be organized with the participation of associate professor E. Osman Erden, an academic at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Contemporary art, which emerged in the 1950s, became clearer in the 1960s and richer in the 1970s, will be addressed together with the concepts of performance, installation, video, earth art and body art in the lectures in morning and evening classes.

The second adult education program will continue with "Glamour of Byzantium." The lectures will be given by associate professor Koray Durak, an academic at Boğaziçi University, in English starting on Nov. 9. Durak will talk about the details of the Byzantine Empire's history, which left an indelible mark an important on the Mediterranean.

In the last program of the fall term, "The Ottoman Tile-Making Story," the focus will be the production of ceramics and tiles in the Ottoman period. The lectures in which associate professor Belgin Demirsar, an academic at Istanbul University, will cover the story of ceramic art with examples found in excavations. It will start on Nov. 30 and continue for three weeks.
