The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Culture Inc. is hosting the 27th International Panorama Conference. The conference will begin today and continue until Sept. 23 at Istanbul's Green Park Taksim Hotel.

Panorama experts, academics, museologists, curators and cultural heritage experts from 30 countries are participating in the conference.

The theme of this year's conference has been selected as, "Memory in Panoramas."

The conference will see academics, museologists and curators discuss the representation practices of memory and historical reality in the context of "panorama."

The questions below form the main subject of academic notifications and discussions to take place at this year's conference:

They will focus on questions like how does panorama and historic reality reflect onto each other and memory, what are the consequences of using panorama as a commemorative tool, how does collective or individual memory affect the perception of panorama, and how and why do memory and expression shape each other in the context of panorama? The organizing and scientific committees of the conference will also examine other topics and ideas.

The Panorama 1453 History Museum, which was a candidate for hosting the International Panorama Conference with many countries at the International Panorama Council (IPC), organized in 2016 in Hungary and in the U.S. in 2017, was selected as the IPC Local Partner for the 26th International Panorama Conference held in New York between Sept. 29 and Oct. 1, 2017.
