Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Fikri Işık has said that the necessary feasibility and site selection studies have been completed for the establishment of a specialized industrial zone for the automotive sector in Sakarya's Karasu district. An area of approximately 222 hectares has been declared as the Karasu Automotive Specialization Industrial Zone.

"To achieve the 2023 goals, the competitive capacity and productivity of Turkish industry should be improved, and studies should be precipitated to transform the industrial structure into one that receives a larger share of world exports, that mainly produces high added-value and high-tech products, that has a qualified workforce and that is sensitive to the environment and society," Işık said in his written statement.

According to the statement, the industrial zone will prioritize investments in the production of domestic vehicles, electricity hybrid vehicles and high added-value parts, such as engines.

The minister noted that the Karasu Automotive Specialization Industrial Zone project would contribute to increasing the share of medium and high-tech sectors in production and exports. The project aims to take advantage of the eastern Marmara region's potential for the automotive sector and its sub-industry products.
