Ankara eyes spare part production of domestic cars

The chairman of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ACC), Gürsel Baran, said the capital is qualified enough to meet the spare part needs of domestic automobiles through research and development (R&D), noting that Ankara is ready to be a supplier to carry out R&D projects and produce engine control units and spare parts for the "brave fellow" to produce domestic automobiles.

Baran said in a written statement that task sharing can be done for domestic automobile production and that Ankara can play an important role in this.

Underlining that Turkey should move to a production-based economy in order to continue its growth and provide employment to the workforce, Baran said that domestic automobiles will become the symbol of transformation in the economy.

Pointing out that domestic automobile production is directly related to the power of R&D, Baran suggested that the road, climate and geographical conditions of the production center must be carefully considered in order for local automobiles to be successful, adding that production centers can spread across multiple locations, sharing both the risk and benefit.

Baran said that Ankara has the capaci

ty to carry out R&D projects for domestic automobiles, indicating that the OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone (OSTİM OIZ) can easily produce the spare parts needed.

"Ankara is ready to be a supplier to carry out R&D projects and produce engine control units and spare parts for the ‘brave fellow' to produce domestic automobiles. Ankara has been cut out for both," Baran said, stressing that the capital can carry out all R&D activities of domestic automobiles with its universities, eight techno parks, 11 OIZs and 29 R&D centers.
