Black Week Istanbul to gather crime novel authors


Celebrating the 125th birthday of acclaimed author Agatha Christie, "Black Week Istanbul" will be held for the first time in Turkey from Oct. 22-24 at the Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah. Detective or crime novel festivals attract great interest from around the world. Black Week Istanbul will strengthen intercultural cooperation with the participation of famous foreign authors among other surprises. Matthew Prichard, the grandson of Agatha Christie, will honor the event in October, and a number of other reputable authors will also be hosted.The festival aims to be a colorful city activity based on detective literature, a genre that plays a central role in encouraging people to read more. As part of the festival, famous Turkish author Ahmet Ümit will give a talk along with Leslie Klinger and Alexander McCall Smith from the U.K., Petros Markaris from Greece, Roberto Costantini from Italy and Jean Christophe-Rufin from France. Numerous mystery books will be on display in glass bells at the hotel, representing a genre that stands out not only for its long history, but also for its contributions to social and cultural life. Festival authors will hold autograph sessions at certain bookstores in Beyoğlu. More details about the festival will be shared on social media with the "#blackweekturkey" hashtag.
