Legends of crime fiction to gather at Black Week


One of the most luxurious historical hotels in the world, Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah, hosts the Istanbul Black Week festival for the second time Dec. 1-3. While last year's festival honored world-famous crime fiction and mystery novel writer Agatha Christie and celebrated the 125th anniversary of her birth, this year the theme of the festival concerns famous Belgian author Georges Simenon, who stayed at the Pera Palace in 1933 and wrote two books set in Turkey.With its historical roots and contributions to culture and the arts, Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah will host formidable international figures in the crime and mystery genre, including world-famous British author Philip Kerr, Tibor Fischer, Sam Wilson, David Walton and Mari Jungstedt in addition to notable Turkish authors and Turkey's first crime fiction magazine 221B.The second Black Week committee includes important figures in Turkish literature, such as Doğan Hızlan, Ahmet Ümit, Adnan Özer and Metin Celal. The festival will offer an unforgettable intellectual event for crime fiction lovers at Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah's Galata Hall, along with panel discussions, such as "Crime Fiction in the City," "Crime Fiction in Historical Novels" and "Female Crime Fiction Writers."
