Beyoğlu Bibliopole Festival opens for book lovers for 11th time

Enlivening Istanbul's cultural and arts life with books for years, the Beyoğlu Bibliopole Festival is back for the 11th time for Istanbulite bibliophiles.

Starting with an opening ceremony based on the theme "Grab your book and join us" on Monday, Sept. 25, the festival is expected to gather thousands of young and old citizens.

As part of Istanbul's Beyoğlu Municipality Festivals, which have been going on since the month of May, the 11th Beyoğlu Bibliopole Festival is located in the events area of Taksim Square. Hosting 74 secondhand booksellers from various cities in Turkey, the festival offers not just tens of thousands of old books, but also periodicals, magazines, old photographs, film and theater posters, precious panels, letters, postcards and private collections that have witnessed history. The festival is open until Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Speaking about the festival, Beyoğlu Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan said it is the mission of the municipality to promote culture and arts in Beyoğlu. Pointing out that they have been gathering bibliopoles in Beyoğlu for 11 years as a municipality, Demircan said, "As we appreciate the importance of reading books, we decided on the theme 'Grab your book and join us' for this year's festival. I invite all Istanbulites to Taksim Square with their books on the opening day. Let's come and read all together at the festival area."
