Strong growth to moderate in 2011

Strong economic growth will continue in Turkey in 2011 although at a more moderate level, Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said on Thursday, adding improved fiscal balances would support expansion.

Data showed Turkey grew 8.9 percent in 2010 and a much stronger than expected 9.2 percent in the fourth quarter.

The government has forecast growth in 2011 at 4.5 percent, but analyst polled by Reuters see it higher at 4.8 percent.

"Improved public finance balances, growing employment and strong banking sector balance sheets will support growth," Simsek said.
