Unemployment on the drop in Turkey
Turkey’s unemployment rate dropped to nine percent in April, a one percentage dropped compared to figures from the same month prior. This figure is the lowest seen since September, 2001.
The total number of unemployed was 2,425,000, which is 212,000 people less than in the same month last year. Over a year, the number of employed increased by 675,000 people, bringing the total to 24.63 million.
Non-agricultural unemployment fell to a historical low at 11.1 percent. The unemployment rate in the younger population dropped from 17.9 percent to 16.7 percent in April, year-on-year.
Minister of Economy Zafer Çağlayan stated that with unemployment rates hitting a low for April, May could experience a historical record drop.
