Turkey encourages women agribusiness entrepreneurs


Istanbul - A project to support female entrepreneurship in rural areas is being conducted by the İzmir Directorate of Food, Agriculture and Husbandry with the support of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock and the Organization of Cooperation of Small and Medium Enterprises (KOSGEB). The project will pave the way for femaleentrepreneurs in the agriculture sector.According to a statement by KOSGEB, 50 female farmers with a knack for entrepreneurship and a desire to run their own businesses will have the opportunity to receive training within the scope of project.Women over 18 registered in the Farmer Registration System, or registered via their husbands or a first degree relative, will have until March 31 to apply to the Directorates of Food, Agriculture and Husbandry in their city or province.After the designation of participants, candidate entrepreneurs will start a 10-day course on April 8. Training will cover subjects like processing and marketing of local products, eco-tourism in rural areas and access to financing opportunities. Participants are expected to prepare and present business ideas. If their projects are accepted, KOSGEB will provide up to TL 30,000 in financial support.
