The "Smart Cities Project," which was prepared for Manisa's Soma district, will receive the largest amount for projects in Turkey within the scope of the EU Framework Program for Research and Innovation. The EU will provide 8 million euros to the project, which will provide energy efficiency in Soma and make the electricity generation system smart. According to the Anadolu Agency, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) is in charge of national coordination of the Horizon 2020 (H2020) program. The project, "CITyFiED Smart Cities," which aims to increase energy efficiency and reduce emission via innovative and integrated energy systems, is jointly undertaken by Soma Municipality, Soma Electricity Generation and Trade Inc. (SEAŞ), Istanbul Technical University, TÜBİTAK's Marmara Research Center, Mir R&D company and European partners. The EU will support the project with 50 million euros, making it the Turkish project receiving the highest amount from the EU at 8 million euros.
