Russian President Vladimir Putin is coming to Turkey on Dec. 1 for $100 billion in trade. Putin will preside at the fifth meeting of the Turkey-Russia High Level Cooperation Council (ÜDİK) together with President Erdoğan and will bring 10 Russian parliamentarians with him for the visit.During the negotiations, obstacles to the $35 billion trade volume between the two countries will hopefully be removed to increase the volume to $100 billion in 2020. Informed sources indicate that cooperation in economy and energy will be the major matters discussed along with finding a solution to exporting fresh fruit and vegetables to Russia. In terms of energy, expediting work on the Akkuyu nuclear power plant will be discussed. Applications for construction licenses, provision of field data to obtain such licenses, whether the Environmental Impact Assessment process can be completed or not and employment of construction workers will be the main issues to be discussed. Prior to the meeting, messages received both from Ankara and Moscow concern increasing the trade volume over $30 billion to $100 billion in 2020.
