US stock market closes lower
U.S. stocks closed lower Monday with declines in energy stocks.The Dow Jones industrial fell 0.74 percent to end the day at 16,514 points.The Nasdaq decreased 0.71 percent to close at 4,557 points and the S&P 500 fell 0.81 percent to end the day at 1,932 points. Shares of U.S. oil and natural gas companies Southwestern Energy Co. and EOG Resources declined 9.17 and 3.73 percent, respectively, Monday -- the last trading day in the month.Meanwhile, S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed February with losses, decreasing 0.4 and 1.2 percent, respectively, during the month.Both indexes have now declined three months in a row, which is a first since 2011. However, the Dow rose 0.3 percent on average during February. In addition, the stocks in the U.S.'s energy sector has decreased by 12.6 percent in the last three months.
