Consumer confidence reaches 3-month high


Turkish consumers reported greater confidence in the economy in April, reaching a three-month high. The consumer confidence index, calculated from the results of the consumer tendency survey carried out in cooperation with the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), increased by 2.2 percent in April compared to the previous month, following a 0.5 percent increase in March.The index was 67 in March, increasing to 68.46 in April. Looking at the sub-indices, the largest rise was seen in the probability of the saving index, reflecting people's attitude toward their ability to save money.The index experienced a 13.1 percent, or 2.74-point, rise compared to the previous month. Expectations concerning the country's general economic outlook also increased by 1.8 percent, jumping from 89.41 points to 91.02 points for April. However, the financial expectations index saw only a modest increase of 0.2 percent compared to the improvements in other indices.
