The Russian Federal Plant Health Inspection Service (Rosselhoznadzor) announced that Russia is ready to lift sanctions on Turkish agricultural products if the necessary assurance is provided. According to a news report by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, the statement came following a meeting between Rosselhoznadzor authorities and a Turkish delegation from the Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry in Moscow.The report said Rosselhoznadzor authorities informed the Turkish delegation of the problems associated with imported goods and that Turkey will provide detailed documentation regarding its exported goods in compliance with Russian regulations. Moreover, the Turkish delegation assured Russian authorities that there will not be any unwanted organisms such as parasites in goods exported to Russia. Recently, Rosselhoznadzor announced that it would temporarily ban the import of eggplants from Turkey as of April 25 as they found "organisms that require quarantine" in some eggplants.The Kremlin had previously banned the sale of tour packages and charter flights to Turkey - as well as the import of certain Turkish goods - following the downing of a Russian military jet by a Turkish F-16 over the Turkish-Syrian border on Nov. 24 after it repeatedly violated Turkish airspace. In December, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an order to extend Russian economic sanctions, ranging from food exports to travel, against Turkey.
