An aircraft enters Turkish airspace every 20 seconds


During the first six months of 2016, one aircraft passed through Turkish airspace on an average of per 20 seconds, according to the General Directorate of State Airports Authority of Turkey (DHMİ).

The number of flights passing through Turkish airspace reached 689,711 during the first six months of the year, an increase by 4.5 percent compared to 660,146 during the same period last year. During the same period, the number of flights including the transit flights increased from 831,478 to 862,600. In other words, one aircraft passed through Turkish airspace on an average of every 20 seconds.

Commercial flights constituted 85 percent of the landing and departing planes in airports by the end of June 2016. The number of commercial flights reached 589,776 during the period between January to June of this year, an increase by 3.7 percent compared to 568,916 during the same period of last year. The increase in the domestic flights continued in the first six months of the year. Domestic flights traffic reached up to 428,388 during the first six months of the year, an increase of 10.6 percent in comparison to the same period last year, while international flights reduced to 261,323, a drop of 4.2 percent. The number of flights transiting through Turkish airspace increased by 0.9 percent during the first six months, reaching 172,889, while Turkish airspace hosted a total number of 862,600 flights during the same period.
