Saf Holland begins production in Turkey

German axle producer Saf Holland has opened a factory in Düzce. The company, which will start production in the coming days, is set to make Turkey a regional hub in axle production, the Dünya daily reported.

The opening ceremony of the factory will be held on March 28 and Science Industry and Technology Minister Faruk Özlü will be in attendance. Headquartered in Germany, Saf Holland has some 3,000 employees around the globe and a turnover exceeding 1 billion euros. The company entered the Turkish market with an office that opened in Istanbul in 2011. This office has now been moved to Düzce.

15 million euros invested in factorySharing information about the particulars of the new factory, Saf Holland Turkey General Manager Bilal Azizoğlu said it has been built on an area of 13,000 square meters, with 10,000 square meters of it being closed and the remaining 3,000 square meters being open. A total of 15 million euros has been invested in the factory, which is aimed at creating jobs for some 150 people.

According to Azizoğlu, Saf Holland has agreements with many different trailer producers in Turkey, including the Tırsan, Serin, Koluman, Otokar and Krone companies. Stressing that they aim to make Turkey a regional hub in axle production, Azizoğlu said Turkey will export axles to the Middle East, Africa and South Africa and, should the need arise, to central Europe.

Last August, Serin, a trailer company, signed a three-year agreement on procuring all of its axle requirements from Saf Holland. Back then, Serin CEO Recep Serin had said: "Saf Holland's upcoming production in Turkey, as well as its international sales, service organizations and quality, which is credited by customers, had a part in this cooperation agreement. We also negotiated with domestic producers, but their certification and production quality was not sufficient for us. Saf Holland's production in Turkey is a very important advantage in terms of reducing our costs.
