Bids for 3-Story Istanbul Tunnel announced
Within the scope of tender bids for the preparation, project design, engineering and consultancy services of the 3-Story Grand Istanbul Tunnel Project, details were revealed yesterday at the Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Ministry Directorate-General of Infrastructure Investments, where four construction firms and consortiums are vying to and the project.
The Tecnimont Civil Construction SPA submitted a bid worth $20.5 million with a score of 87.96 points while Italfer SPA-Sintagma Srl Joint Venture put forward a bid of $24.8 million with a score of 91.27.
On the other hand, in a joint-venture bid Arcadis-Prota Engineering Project Consultancy Services, Inc. issued an estimated $32.9 million bid worth 92.09 points followed by Yüksel Proje Uluslararası, A.Ş. with a proposal of $28.8 million, scoring 100 points.
Tender Commission Chairman and deputy General Director Mehmet Şamil Kayalak said, within the scope of the project which will be built on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, a dual highway stretching 16.5-kilometers in length will be built between the TEM-Hasdal intersection on the European side of Istanbul and the TEM-Çamlık intersection on the Anatolian side. It will also include a 31-kilometer stretch of high-speed subway line, consisting of 14 stations between İncirli on Istanbul's European side and Söğütlüçeşme on the Anatolian side.
Noting that the project's tender will be carried out following a decision by the High Planning Council (YPK), Kayalak said that in the scope of the preparation and project design services, the land-sea-Golden Horn (Haliç) drillings, geophysical seismic research, geotechnical and geological studies, route studies and preliminary projects including the preliminary and final feasibility studies will be conducted with an estimated price tag of $36.6 million. Kayalak said the result of the tender will be announced after technical and financial evaluations are complete, adding that the tender commission has already begun examining the relevant companies' portfolios. The 3-Story Grand Istanbul Tunnel Project, which will run under the Bosporus Strait, will consist of a metro line as well as a dual motorway within one tube.
The two-lane railway will run in both directions through the middle of the tunnel and a dual highway will allow rubber-wheel vehicles to travel on highway lanes below and above the railway section.
Nearly 6.5 million passengers are expected to use the line on daily basis.
