Turkey to establish first organized industrial zone in space aviation


Turkey's first Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) to specialize in the field of space and aviation is set to be established in the Kahramankazan district of the capital city Ankara and is expected to generate a turnover of $2 billion, providing employment opportunities for 15,000 people.

The foundation of the Ankara Aerospace Specialized Industrial Zone (HAB),to be established amid aims to upgrade the country's industrial sector and bring Turkey to the international stage with further development of its space and defense systems, will be laid after the April 16 referendum. The pioneering OSB specialized in space and aviation zone will have a turnover goal of $2 billion annually and will be founded in the districts of Kahramankazan, Yenimahalle and Sincan in Ankara near the TUSAŞ / TAI campuses has been set as $2 billion.

So far, the number of companies applying for HAB has exceeded 150. While the initial stage of HAB will be 4.1 million square meters, the start-up works for Turkey's first Specialized Aerospace Industrial Zone began in 2011 before the site was selected in 2013 and formally registered in 2015. The infrastructure projects for HAB, which will be completed through the collaboration of the undersecretariat for the defense industry, the Ankara Chamber of Industry and the Defense and Aeronautical Industry Manufacturers' Association, are still ongoing.

Prof. Dr. İbrahim Keskiner, director of Ankara Aerospace Specialized Industrial Zone, said the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) has undertaken the investment program of the channel constructions in HAB in order to accelerate the project and, therefore, the groundbreaking ceremony related to the excavation and filling works will be held after the referendum.

15,000 new jobsThe Ankara Aerospace Specialized Industrial Zone, which aims to support the domestic space and aviation industries synergizes local and foreign companies together, will increase exports by producing high added-value products and will consist of two development stages.While the first 4.1-million-square-meter stage will generate employment opportunities for 15,000 people, the total scope of the two stages will total 7.2 million square meters. Noting that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also expressed interest in the project, Keskiner said that platforms such as domestic airplanes, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their sub-versions could be produced in the industrial zone.
