Organic Turkish food under spotlight at Summer Fancy Food Show in NYC


Organic Turkish food products drew significant interest at the 63rd Summer Fancy Food Show, which took place in New York City on June 25-27. Turkey was featured as a partner country at the show, which is known to be the largest specialty food industry trade event in North America.

Turkey's participation in the show was organized by the Aegean Exporters' Association, which has been promoting organic Turkish food products in the U.S. market. The Vice Chairman of Aegean Exporters 'Association Nurettin Tarakçıoğlu, the Chairman of Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds Exporters Association Moiz Hemsi, and the Chairman of Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters' Association, Turkey Birol Celep, represented Turkey at the show.

Approximately 180,000 products were exhibited in the show, and more than 2,700 companies from 55 countries participated, including 40 Turkish companies. Over 50,000 visitors have reportedly attended the event.

The Turkish Consul General in New York Ertan Yalçın and Commercial Attaché Özgür Çelikel, visited show and booths of participating companies.United States, one of the major food importers in the world, exports many food and agricultural products from Turkey.

The Vice Chairman Aegean Exporters' Association Nurettin Tarakçıoğlu noted that Turkey's food exports to the U.S. amounted to $755 million in 2016, and the country aims to boost this figure to 2 billion dollars.

Tarakçıoğlu added that many specialty foods from Turkey, including dried, frozen, preserved, pickled and canned products, as well as fruit juices, pasta, grains, confectionary, herbs, spices and nuts are exported to the U.S. annually.

"We look forward to enhancing our presence in the U.S. and around the world," he added.The Chairman of the Aegean Cereal Pulses Oil Seeds and Products Exporters Association Moiz Hemsi said that the Summer Fancy Food Show, a popular event amongst food companies in Turkey, is significant for the market in this region in order to increase global awareness of Turkish food products.
