Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said yesterday that Russia agreed with Turkey in principle to start importing tomatoes on Dec. 1.

"Some legislative changes need to be made in this regard and relevant documents are being prepared," said Novak.

Speaking at an event held in Sochi, Russia, Novak stated that 50,000 tons of tomatoes would be imported from four Turkish companies.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich had announced that tomato imports from Turkey would cover the December-April period.

Meanwhile, developments in agriculture are expected to be addressed at the Turkish-Russian Intergovernmental Commission, which will be held in the Tatar capital of Kazan on Oct. 21.
