Domestic high-speed train to be manufactured in Eskişehir

Turkish Locomotive and Engine Company Inc. (TÜLOMSAŞ) will produce high-speed railway systems for Turkey's High-Speed Train (YHT) project in Central Anatolia's Eskişehir.

TÜLOMSAŞ will carry out the project in collaboration with Eskişehir Chamber of Industry (ESO), Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ) and Rails Systems Cluster (RSC).

According to ESO, officials from OIZ, RSC and ESO recently discussed the project with TÜLOMSAŞ, which is looking to produce high-speed railway systems in Turkey.

ESO Chairman Savaş Özaydemir said the project will greatly benefit the city and the country's economy.

He revealed that around 20 sets will be produced in the first phase of the three-phase project. In the subsequent stages, 60 and 16 sets will be produced respectively.

"Domestic producers, as well as industries from Eskişehir, will actively participate in the process," Özaydemir said, adding that, "By taking these first steps, TÜLOMSAŞ, our chamber, the OIZ, and RSC will come together to further discuss what we can achieve together."

Chairman of the OIZ, Nadir Küpeli said the collaboration was a very important step and added that the production of locally-made high-speed trains will begin with technology transfer and will be followed by a large domestic contribution.

"We care much about this collaborative approach. This will further advance the industrialization of our city," he said.

"What makes this project even more important is the fact that everything from the software and command control to traction system and installation will be indigenous."

RSC Chairman Kenan Işık said they were ready to contribute to the project in every possible way.

He noted that the project will be carried out by TÜLOMSAŞ within the scope of the Industrial Cooperation Program, a first in Turkey.
