A unit of Türkiye's telecommunications and tech giant, Türk Telekom, signed a strategic collaboration deal with Stanford Research Institute (SRI) covering next-generation communications technologies, the company said Thursday.

Türk Telekom, a driving force behind Türkiye’s digital transformation, continues to connect technologies developed in Türkiye with the global research and innovation ecosystem, supported by its robust technology infrastructure, R&D expertise and engineering capabilities.

Accordingly, a strategic collaboration agreement covering joint research and development in next-generation communications technologies has been signed between Türk Telekom’s group company Argela and SRI, one of Silicon Valley’s most established research institutions.

Launched in line with Türk Telekom’s technology vision, the collaboration marks an important step towards strengthening Türkiye’s engineering capabilities through international research know-how and expanding their reach across the global technology ecosystem.

Argela's engineering experience in telecommunications technologies with SRI's nearly 80 years of research and innovation expertise, the partnership will pursue joint initiatives to develop next-generation communications technologies.

"As Türk Telekom, we are shaping Türkiye’s digital future through our robust infrastructure, technological expertise, R&D investments and engineering capabilities. At the same time, we are committed to bringing technologies developed in Türkiye to the global stage," said Türk Telekom CEO Ebubekir Şahin.

"We continue to work towards our vision of a Türkiye that not only uses technology but also produces, develops and brings it to the world," he added.

"The engineering expertise of our group company, Argela, is an important part of this vision. Through this collaboration with SRI, we are bringing together the engineering expertise built in Türkiye with Silicon Valley’s long-established research ecosystem," Şahin said, adding that they aim to transform the experience gained from the project, whose testing and development will be carried out in Türkiye, "into tangible value through new technologies developed with our national R&D capabilities."

"We believe that advancing technologies developed in Türkiye through global partnerships will further strengthen our country’s R&D capabilities," he noted.

The initial focus of the collaboration will be on the high-speed packet processing technologies required by future communication networks. The project will explore a new approach to moving high-performance workloads currently handled by specialized hardware to programmable GPU-based platforms. This approach aims to enable the development of more flexible and cost-effective next-generation technologies that can be readily adapted to different needs.
