Five new films debut in theaters this week


By the SeaWritten and directed by Angelina Jolie, "By the Sea" is the third fiction film by Jolie following her directorial debut with "In the Land of Blood and Honey" and "Unbroken," which hit theaters last year. Set in a calm and peaceful French coastal town during the 1970s, the film poetically follows the ups and downs of the relationship of an American writer, Roland, and his dancer wife Vanessa. Jolie and her husband, actor Brad Pitt, co-star in the film. Secret in Their EyesStarring Academy Award-winning actresses Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts along with Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor, the American production "Secret in Their Eyes" centers on the concepts of justice, motherhood and revenge though its striking and touching story. Adapted from the namesake 2015 Spanish production and directed by Billy Ray, the film centers around District Attorney Detective Jess Cobb, who is chosen for an anti-terror police force following 9/11, FBI agent Ray Kasten and Deputy District Attorney Claire Sloan. A special team formed from rising investigators, along with their supervisor, is suddenly torn apart when they discover that one of their own teenage daughters has been brutally murdered.Mia Madre (My Mother)Margherita, a director in the middle of an existential crisis, is working on a social realist film that will be a breakthrough in her career. While she has to deal with the absurd needs of her star actor, Margherita also has to deal with the inevitable and still unacceptable loss of her mother. Starring John Turturro, Margherita Buy, Nanni Moretti, Anna Bellato and Giulia Lazzarini, the Italian-French co-production was directed by Nanni Moretti. The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. It was also screened as part of the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.HüddamDirected by Utku Uçar, the Turkish film "Hüddam" stars Fatma Hun, Murat Özen, Çağrı Duran, Eray Logo and Hande Oktan. The thriller focuses on a cult and one of history's oldest curses. Can lives an ordinary life with his mother, but one day his mother starts speaking in ancient languages. As Can tries to help his mother and find the reason for her strange behavior he finds himself in a complicated situation.Pırdino Sürpriz Yumurta (Pırdino: Surprise Egg)Directed by Günay Köker, this Turkish animation was dubbed by Ebubekir Öztürk, Serkan Şengül, Seda Kement, Efe Kılıç and Bengi Bilir. Adapted from the namesake TV series, the film is about the adventures of a cute dinosaur named Pırdino and his friends in order to find Pırdino's lost mother.
