The countdown has begun for the 35th Istanbul Film Festival, which will run between April 7 and April 17, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Art and Culture in partnership with Akbank. The festival will feature a special section commemorating the 30th anniversary of the death of one of the most original, independent and creative directors in the film industry, Otto Preminger. Of Austrian origin, the American filmmaker began his career in film in Vienna and then moved to Broadway in his 20s. After gaining experience as the director of theater plays, Preminger stepped foot into Hollywood and initiated the "Film Noir" Movement. Preminger is a cinema figure whose personal life has been in the spotlight as much as his films. He opened a lawsuit in order to screen his films, which feature strong taboos for the cinema industry, and won, freeing cinema in the 1950s.As a part of the 35th Istanbul Film Festival, the selection will enable the audience to get to know Preminger better. Moreover, veteran designer Yurdaer Altıntaş, who previously collaborated with the film festival, has prepared a special poster for the Otto Preminger section of the film festival. A total of 10 films by Preminger, who stands out with his scripts and suspense that keeps the audience awake, will be screened at the festival. The masterpiece of the "film noir" movement, "Laura," one of the best court dramas in cinema history, "Anatomy of a Murder," the very first film that sheds light on drug addicts, "The Man with the Golden Arm," political film "Advise and Consent" and two films that present Jean Seberg as a gift to cinema, "Bonjour Tristesse" and "Saint Joan," are among the films that will be featured in the special section of the festival.
