Erdal Tosun, a famous Turkish actor and theater player, died at the age of 53 early Wednesday following a car accident in Istanbul's Sarıyer district.

The accident reportedly took place when a driver lost steering control and got out of the lane at an intersection in Büyükdere road and fell on Tosun's car.

Ambulances were dispatched to the accident site but couldn't save Tosun's life because he was stuck between his car and the other. Police immediately launched investigations regarding the accident.

Necdet Tosun, the actor's father, who was a famous actor in Turkish cinema, had also died in a car accident on May 10 in 1975 in Istanbul.

His brother -also a famous actor, known for the famous character 'Tombalak' in famous Bir Demet Tiyatro TV comedy series- died due to health problems in 2000.

Erdal Tosun was born in April 9, 1963 in Istanbul. He graduated from Beyoğlu Fındıklı High School. He started his acting career with a movie called 'Mine' in 1981. He completed his acting education in Mimar Sinan University and after his graduation, he entered the state theater in Turkey's southern resort city of Antalya.

He became famous across the country after he joined the Beşiktaş Culture Center.

The 'alas! Necdet' role that he played in famous Bir Demet Tiyatro TV series was his best performance in his acting carrier, according to theater critics.
