Within the scope of the "Cold Front from the Balkans" exhibition at Pera Museum, Pera Film is offering a collection of experimental films produced in the former socialist Yugoslavia between 1963 and 1987.The film program titled, "Form and Policy of Yugoslavian Experimental Cinema," is waiting for cinema lovers this weekend, free of charge.The film selection, curated by Sezgin Boynik, is formed of two sections. The "Film as a Research" section includes experimental films produced by the legendary GEFF (Experimental Genre Films Festival) established in Zagreb in 1963 and the second section titled, "Power of Abstraction," brings together films that have developed, and alternative and formalist films.Some of the films in the selection focus on the productions of artists including Mladen Stilinovic, Sanja Ivekovic and Tomislav Gotovac, who used cinema as a tool for finding the answers to questions related with the conceptual art. Artists such as Zelimir Zilnik, Karpo Godina, Vlatko Gilic and Vladimir Petek claim cinematic language is based on artistic arrangements.The curator, Sezgin Boynik, will give a speech on the unique conditions of experimental art in Yugoslavia and Eastern Europe on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and will discuss the social and historical conditions at the time these films were produced.
