Short film competition ready for hopeful applicants

The 4th Mercy to Universe International Short Film and Scenario Competition, organized by the Al-Sira Foundation, is now accepting applications.

Focusing on topics like Prophet Muhammad's reliable personality, the sacred mission he conducted and his simplistic way of life, the competition's goal is to create awareness in the movie industry through short films and by supporting film makers.

The mission of the project is to support any film maker who wants to deliver Prophet Muhammad's messages through cinema, which is undeniably one of the most effective communication methods today.

In 2014, 50 film makers participated in the competition, which is the first of its kind, and TL 35,000 ($9,845) was awarded. During the third year of the competition, 143 films participated, with an award of TL 65,000, last year. With the award ceremony reaching millions of people through national and local TV channels, the Mercy to Universe International Film Competition has become a model for other civil society organizations trying to launch similar projects.

Applications for the 2017 competition are now being accepted. Presentations in Turkish, English and Arabic will be supported by the website and on social media accounts, and information about the competition can be found on its website.

The deadlines for applications are as follows: Dec. 31 for short films and animations and Sept. 30 for scenarios. The premiere and award ceremony will be held on Feb. 18, 2018. All of the short film productions will be evaluated under two categories, fiction and animation, while the scenarios will be evaluated under one category.

This year's theme is "The Words of the Most Beautiful," with all of the productions being evaluated in this context.

Hopeful participants can apply on the competition's website until Dec. 31.

This year's award will be TL 100,000, with both international and local applications being accepted.
