UNIQ Istanbul has welcomed the summer with the UNIQ Open-air Film Festival starting in June, offering several frequently mentioned, blockbuster and awarded films.

The most anticipated screening will be the documentary titled "The Beatles: Eight Days a Week," which has made a big name for itself both in America and all around the world since its release day. The film gives the biography of the world-renowned rock group The Beatles, which released their first album in 1963 and demonstrated themselves with world tours.

"Snowden," which tells the life story of Edward Snowden who is known as the biggest traitor in the American history and "T2 Trainspotting," which was shot as the sequel of Danny Boyle's legendary film Trainspotting, are among the films which will welcome cinema lovers with films full of adventure.

Here is the detailed list of films to be screened throughout July.

The Beatles: Eight Days a Week

The Beatles conquered Europe in 1963 and the United States in 1964. Their sensational world tours changed the global youth culture as well as making the modern mass entertainment culture. At the same time, the band continued to compose new pieces and record great singles and albums. Through the lens of Ron Howard, the audience will both fully enjoy The Beatles' songs and witness what went behind this legendary tour.

T2 Trainspotting

Successful director Danny Boyle and the cast consisting of Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewen Bremner, Robert Carlyle and Angela Nedyalkova came together again after 20 years to film "T2 Trainspotting." The adventures of Renton and his gang offer nostalgia to the audience.

Snowden

Inspired by the real story of the former NSA employee Edward J. Snowden, "Snowden" is directed by Oliver Stone. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Nicolas Cage, Tom Wilkinson, Parker Sawyers and Melissa Leo, and based on the books "The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man" by Luke Harding and "Time of the Octopus" by Anatoly Kucherena, the film follows Edward Snowden who leaked documents related to illegal NSA surveillance, causing the biggest security breach in the history of American intelligence.

Neruda

Starring Gael Garcia Bernal, Luis Gnecco, Mercedes Moran, Alfredo Castro, Pablo Derqui, Mercedes Moran and Emilio Gutierrez Caba, " Neruda " is directed by Pablo Larrain.

Chronicling the life of poet and Communist Senator Pablo Neruda, the biographical drama, "Neruda," focuses on the political prosecution of Neruda suffered after criticizing President Gabriel Gonzalez Videla's brutal anti-Communist repression in a speech in the National Congress in 1948. Following his speech, a fascist detective coordinates a manhunt for the Nobel Prize winner poet.

Cafe Society

Set in New York and Hollywood in the 1930s, "Cafe Society" is about the adventures of Bobby Dorfman, who was the youngest son of a jewelry dealer in the Bronx. When Bobby gets bored of his father's shop, he travels to Hollywood to spend time with his uncle Phil, who is a manager of popular Hollywood film stars, transforms and experiences love and hate in a world filled with Hollywood scandal, gossip and beautiful women. After being rejected by the woman he loves, Bobby returns to New York and discovers a whole new world after taking over a night club in his hometown. Woody Allen's "Cafe Society," which was the opening film at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016, stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively, Parker Posey, Steve Carell, Corel Stoll and Sheryl Lee.

Dalida

Directed by Lisa Azeulos, the film "Dalida," tells the tragic story of the once famous superstar singer of not just France but the whole world. From her birth in Cairo in 1933, her debut performance at the Olympia in 1956, her marriage to radio owner Lucien Morisse, to disco nights and a journey to India, the film portrays the cornerstones of her life. Sveve Alviti acts Dalida, the modern, complex and charismatic singer who stood against the world. Even after her tragic death in 1987, she continues to shine in the hearts of many.

On Body and Soul

Directed by Ildiko Enyedi and starring Geza Morsanyi, Alexandra Borbely andZoltan Schneider, "On Body and Soul" is the story of mystical love between an introverted man andwoman. Endre is the financial manager at a slaughterhouse near Budapest and he develops intense feelings for Maria, who comes to the slaughterhouse to conduct an audit. However, he cannot disclose his feelings either to himself or to Maria. Later, by coincidence, Endre and Maria, who is pedantic, meticulous and equally introverted, realize that they had the same dream. Their love grows deeper in the fairytale-like atmosphere in which they meet each night. Combining a poetic narrative with harsh reality, the movie won the Golden Bear award at the 2017 Berlin Film Festival.

Frantz

Award-winning director François Ozon's "Frantz" sheds light on the shattered lives of people once war ends. The film, which stars Pierre Niney, Paula Beer, Ernst Stotzner and Marie Gruber, made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The Land of Mine

Following Germany's surrender in May 1945, a group of German war prisoners is sent to Denmark. Their mission is to clean about two million mines placed on the west coast of the country with their bare hands and no protection. Based on true events in which more than half of the prisoners lost their lives or limbs, and directed by Martin Zandvliet, the film unearths a rarely known story about World War II, and takes the viewers on a capturing and heart-breaking journey through the dark pages of history.

Koca Dünya / Big Big World

Directed by Reha Erdem, the Turkish production "Big Big World" stars Ecem Uzun, Berke Karaer, Melisa Akman, Murat Deniz and Ayta Sözeri.

Following the story of Ali and Zuhal, two young adults who were raised in an orphanage, the film starts when the duo take their first steps into the "big world" outside the orphanage. The film follows the struggles of the pair as they take a leap into unfamiliar territory. They encounter crime in the first step they take after leaving the orphanage and face society. The anxiety and woes they face is reflected on the silver screen during various stages throughout the film.

Things to Come

Young French director Mia Hansen-Love brings this story inspired by her mother's life to the screen. Played by the great, talented actress Isabelle Hubert, Nathalie is a philosophy teacher at a high school and as a chain of unfortunate events unfolds with her mother's illness, obstacles in her career and marital problems, this middle aged woman is about to meet freedom for the first time. The movie, which won the Silver Bear award for "Best Director" at the 2016 Berlin Film Festival, also contains references to well-known philosophers.

Florence Foster Jenkins

Hollywood's cult actress Meryl Streep plays American socialite Florence Foster Jenkins who lived between 1868 and 1944. Starring Hugh Grant, Simon Helberg and Rebecca Ferguson along with Streep, the film is directed by Stephen Frears.

The Odyssey

Jacques-Yves Cousteae, namesake Captain Cousteau, lives in a paradise-like Mediterranean bay with his wife and two sons. His discovery, which made it possible to breathe underwater, has opened up a new world to Cousteau. He intends to explore this new world no matter what its cost. Commonly known as an underwater explorer, the life of Cousteau, who's also an Oscar winning director, a scientist, an environmentalist, a photographer and a writer, is brought to the silver screen by director Jerome Salle.
