It is obvious that those who lost their lives, their families and friends during the failed coup attempt of July 15 are the number one victims of what has happened. However some people claim now there are other victims, as well. They mean those who have been jailed or lost their jobs in the wake of the coup attempt. It is indeed possible that some of them have lost their jobs because of false denunciations. In their case, we just have to have faith in the justice system, and wait for these errors to be corrected with time.

We know that all civil servants who had some links with the Gülenist Terrorist Group (FETÖ) have been arrested or suspended. We also know that those in the high circles of FETÖ have already fled the country.

We are talking about tens of thousands of people here. When you fire thousands of people from public service, it is obvious that you have to find new people to do their job. Many people in the public service have to deal now with more things to do, as civil servants with links to FETÖ have been fired. Doctors have to take care of more patients, policemen have to work longer hours, teachers have to think about more students. Academic staff has to assure more courses, professors have to direct more Ph.D. theses, many academic projects have just been abandoned.

It's obvious that new people will be hired after all, and very quickly, to replace those who have been fired. It will take time, however. You can't just hire anybody to replace vacant posts, this is a serious process.

That's what is revolting: some people have tried to topple the democratically elected government in a coup, which is a terrible criminal act. Because of their actions, life has become more complicated for everyone in the country. That's why when I hear people (who are not innocents) claiming that they are victims because they have lost their jobs; I just want to say that those who still have a job have to work twice as much because of you.

Most people, especially in the public sector, weren't able to go on holiday this summer. The government had decided to suspend annual leave for civil servants, because the authorities didn't want to take any risks: people involved with the coup attempt could flee, so the decision was to keep all civil servants where they are forcing the government to immediately launch a screening process after the coup attempt to find out who is involved with the Gülenists. This strict period lasted only for a couple of weeks, but extra security measures for those who want to leave the country are still in place.

The aim is to prevent people escaping by using legal means; because those who use illegal means have already fled. Now every civil servant must follow a very complicated procedure to leave the country even for a short period of time. One has to ask permission from its superiors, fill a number of papers, get the signatures of quite an important number of people. If you are an academic who wants to travel to France for two days, you have to spend maybe two weeks dealing with all the necessary paperwork. That's only one of the examples how innocent people suffer right now in Turkey because of the failed coup attempt.

Some criminals have tried to seize the state, and they did it by using illegal and criminal means. Because of their plot, innocent people all over the country have a more difficult life right now.

Of course, those who had the idea to fire from tanks and kill their own citizens wouldn't care about the problems they have caused. But when one talks about victimization, it would be better to mention the real victims, and not those who, by their actions, caused all this suffering.
