Re-Orient: New welfare union

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's recent visit to China was perhaps the most successful and most strategic diplomatic initiative in recent history. The message from Erdoğan's visit to China and Indonesia indicated both the current political atmosphere and future dynamics. I have stated many times before, but let me reiterate: The new period that started in China with President Xi Jinping, called the "One Belt, One Road" (OBOR) project, does not only mean a new period for China, but for Asia and the whole world as well.

This road, which started in China some 2,000 years ago and reached Europe passing through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Turkey and Greece, is now being renovated with middle and southern corridors. The OBOR project, which has been proposed by Xi, consists of two main components, the land-based "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the oceangoing "21st Century Maritime Silk Route Economic Belt." As an attempt to reinvigorate the Silk Road, the project connects the Eastern Asian and European economies, passing through 65 countries whose total economic wealth adds up to $21 trillion.

It appears that this new road will build a new economic and political paradigm as well. It would not be wrong to say that a war on sharing this trade axis has already started. For me, all that has happened to Turkey since 2013 has been the implications of this war on sharing. The statements that were made by Iran, Israel and Western countries before and after Erdoğan visited China suggest many things. Iran made statements that almost supported the PKK terror organization, Israel gave messages that signed the alleviation of strained relations and Russia announced that it would launch a reduction on its natural gas supply to Turkey in order to clear the way for the Turkish Stream.

Asian stocks are on the decline as China's manufacturing data weakens and Thailand and South Korea have not maintained their previous condition. Leaving aside all this, some have not taken kindly to Xi's initiative, which is the greatest change that has been undertaken in China since Deng Xiaoping, and the instigated alienation from Asia starting with China. Xi is successfully pursuing Deng's path, and from this point of view, he is the pioneer of the new Chinese revolution.

Two years ago, Xi delivered a speech titled "Reform, International Expansion and the Future of Asia" at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Indonesia, which, together with Turkey, has recently been included in the fragile five by the global financial oligarchy. In his speech, Xi pointed to the great Asian integration, emphasizing that it was time for Asia to introduce a new growth path and that regional economies should jointly develop technology. From this standpoint, Xi knows Turkey's place in the new global paradigm shift that China plans, and allocates a greater role for Turkey than it does for Iran and Russia. Let us underline that Russia has been the greatest political and economic rival of China's in its history. During the whole Cold War period, the Communist Party of China (CPC) did not ultimately prefer the Soviet Union and always supported the U.S. against the Soviet Union during hard times.

Today, the U.S. has two major fears. First is that, with Xi's initiative, China systematically exports its technology and its great capital power by crossing the Pacific borders. Second, is that China is rapidly consuming its dollar reserves. The U.S. knows that the second fear will be realized if China goes beyond its borders, takes steps toward a new world and initiates a new trade cycle that is not based on the dollar. The New Silk Road project is one of the first and most strategic signs that the U.S.'s two fears, which complement each other, are starting to be realized.

During Erdoğan's visit to China, Xi attended the business forum organized by the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK).This symbolic and significant gesture, beyond any doubt, tells of a new period for the economic relations between Turkey and China.

Realizing that this project is at the same time a global paradigm shift, Turkey took the necessary steps. In this regard, the line that Erdoğan has insistently pursued since he was prime minister is compatible with this dynamic and Turkey's achievements over the past decade prove this.

Think about the energy agreements that Turkey made in 2013, the Southern Gas Corridor and endeavors to launch an energy stock exchange with basic strategic energy regions, including the Caspian region, Mosul, Iran and the Levant (off the coast of Israel and Gaza).

This whole picture reveals that the new Asian development and integration proposed by Xi at the APEC meeting is an alternative to the new Transatlantic great union proposed by the EU and the U.S. This major development paradigm appeals to the EU thanks to Turkey.

The current process puts an end to the 500-year-old paradigm. The West based its union on warfare, but the East is establishing its union on welfare.
