The meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping was one of the most important summits of 2017. This meeting took place at the very beginning of the new path both the U.S. and China are about to walk down. China is striving to step into the "One Belt, One Road" (OBOR) project under the leadership of Xi. The U.S., on the other hand, does not want to sacrifice its hegemonic power and is trying to overcome its crisis. China's OBOR project does not concern a single country. In order for China to be able to make the project a reality, it needs the support of regional forces, such as Russia, Iran and Turkey as well as the support of Europe and the U.K., even if only indirectly. This is because what Xi wants is a new world order in trade. This order needs new international reconciliation and the reduction of hot spots around the world in conflict areas. On the other hand, it is not possible for Trump both to create employment to rapidly overcome crises at home and remain the policeman of the world by protecting its military strength like before. Therefore, the U.S. should establish a more fiduciary relationship with its old allies like Turkey, and win the confidence of the Turkish people again. Based on a broad consensus from Turkey to the U.K., the U.S. fired on regime forces after they used chemical weapons in Syria. So, we are stepping into a new era in which no country, including the U.S. and China, can set the global political agenda on their own.

The U.K. needs strong and democratic partners like Turkey as it enters the new process after Brexit. The situation here is similar: There is a need for stability and democratic empowerment in rising countries like Turkey, which can bring peace to conflict areas and welfare to poor countries in the world's east and south, in order to actualize China's OBOR project, Trump's dream of an employment-creating U.S. with hegemonic power, and U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May's dream of a strong U.K. seceding from the EU.

In this regard, the April 16 constitutional referendum is a revolutionary and systemic transformation for Turkey; it bears the potential and social dynamics to transform not only Turkey, but also the vast region surrounding us. The Turkish public will wake up to an environment of trust and stability on the morning of April 17. This will be the first and safest step toward a new world order both for the region and ultimately the world. Turkey will take a step to stop terror in its region and the world on April 17. This is because, the creation of a democratic executive power in Turkey will pave the way for a new democratic model for Iran and Russia and undermine the support of nation-states based on terror.

Today, there is no province in Turkey that is inaccessible by plane. The region provides cheap and fast access to airports available to everyone. Health and education are the areas with the largest budget share today. The distribution of income is improving and the demands of the middle class for more opportunities and prosperity are increasing as poverty declines. This is a very positive development because the desire to climb the social ladder is an inevitable dynamic of progression for any open society. This dynamic demands the highest level of participation in politics and a strong democratic executive body. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's administration, which has been in power for nearly 15 years, has given such great hope to this society that we have to build a new politics and new institutions that can directly bring the demands of the society to the political world or make it a partner of politics. Otherwise, we cannot take even a step further. This is true for the region as much as for Turkey. Today, the people of Cairo aspire for the welfare of the people of Istanbul. Mosul, Baghdad and Damascus want to be as safe as Ankara. The prosperity that the Turkish people have achieved in the last decade will continue to increase after April 17 and this will spread rapidly across the entire region, from Eastern Europe to the Caspian shores, in a new wave of hope. The increase in prosperity starting with Turkey in the region is the biggest antidote to terror and the emergence of new development that will end Europe's crisis.

As a result, not only Turkey but Eastern Europe and the Middle East will take a new turn on the morning of April 17.
