Economy politics of FETÖ and July 15

July 15, beyond any doubt, is as important a date for the world as it was for Turkey. Some elements in the army of a NATO member country attempted to stage a coup on July 15, 2016 and this coup attempt was prevented by the public on the streets. Here, there are two points that we need to elaborate on: First is the structure and history of the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) that perpetrated this attempt and the position of its leader. Second is the scope and depth of the civil resistance against in this coup. In fact, these two points explain the economy politics of the coup attempt.

When we look at the external connections of the coup-maker organization that was structured within the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), the resident position of its leader, Fetullah Gülen, in the U.S., and his "dark" connections there, and comments by the U.S. and German media during and after the coup attempt, we can easily see the dimensions of the coup attempt, what underlay it and what capital powers supported it. For instance, the title of a July 15 analysis piece in The Washington Post was "Failure of coup will not bring further democracy to Turkey." Likewise, The New York Times that has been in the anti-Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and anti-Turkey bloc since the beginning and that we know to represent dark capital powers, insulted people who prevented the coup with unprecedented bravery, and 250 of whom were killed, with a FETÖ rhetoric, saying, "The Erdoğan supporters are sheep, and they will follow whatever he says." Moreover, German Die Welt was out with the following headline the day after the coup attempt: "Turkey's crisis: The actual coup starting now." These comments and headlines are the expressions of FETÖ's arguments, which were directed at the world's public opinion, by these media outlets during and after the coup attempt, even before FETÖ itself voiced them. For instance, Die Welt's headline was the first version and starting point of FETÖ's thesis of a "controlled coup." The government's declaration of a state of emergency by necessity after the coup attempt on July 20 brought up the argument that "July 20 was the actual coup, and July 15 was a controlled coup," for FETÖ and its followers. The Republican People's Party (CHP), and its leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, are defending this argument these days.

Now, let us take a look at FETÖ and its leader again. Gülen's dark story, which started while he was a preacher in İzmir, goes back to the years in which Turkey was ruled by the political tutelage of military and pro-coup institutions even when there were no military coups or pro-coup administrations. The Gülenist organization started emerging as a so-called religious organization in the western provinces of Turkey in the years that followed the 1960 coup d'état. This structure stood by coup makers in bloody coups such as the March 12, 1971 and Sept. 12, 1980 coups and conducted fascistic activities that suffocated anti-coup, democratic civil society movements and denounced them. Gülen was serving as a preacher in İzmir before the fascistic Sept. 12 coup. I advise everyone to look at the sermons he delivered shortly before the coup. FETÖ member media outlets were broadcasting these sermons until recently. In these sermons, Gülen overtly called on the army for a coup and, as a ferocious fascist, he suggested that the university youth of that time must be slaughtered and eliminated unless they pursued his line. Gülen's advice was exactly followed by the fascistic generals who perpetrated the Sept. 12 coup d'etat. Many young people were eliminated in prisons, under arrest or in house or street raids after the coup. In other words, Gülen, a so-called religious Gladio chief at that time, had a hand in the elimination of thousands of people by fascistic pro-coup powers during and after Sept. 12, 1980. Gülen and his bloody organization played an active role in the Feb. 28, 1997 coup and organized the ideological and media connections of the coup, so much so that the Feb. 28 process is a media-weighted process as a "post-modern" coup in essence.

As a result, when we look at the history of coups in Turkey, we come to the following conclusion about FETÖ and Gülen. This fascistic structure and its leader are a very important underground part of the fascistic Gladio organization in Turkey. In fact, the organization changed its strategy with the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) coming to power and wanted to liquidate the secular, neo-nationalist and fascistic wing, its twin brother, in Gladio. Here, FETÖ had a dual objective. First, it aimed to dominate both the state and army on its own by completely liquidating the Gladio wing from these two spheres as it had no legitimacy on a national and global scale and was unearthed in the democratic public opinion. Second, by doing so, it aimed to maximize its legitimacy and introduce itself as an anti-coup, democratic, reputable, civilian and religious civil society structure that is open to the outside world and has a high secular sensitivity.

It was exactly in these years that FETÖ denied being named a "congregation," which suggests a religious structure, and named itself the "service [hizmet] movement" to strengthen this objective. This is because it wanted to replace its secular twin brother, which it strove to liquidate in all aspects. Again, in the same years, especially from 2008 to 2012, after the over-closure case against the AK Party, FETÖ very well used the position that old pro-coup powers took up against the AK Party and carried out many operations by highlighting this political legitimacy. Unlike its outlook in the Sept. 12 and Feb. 28 processes, FETÖ adopted a "liberal" outlook and, in this way, it ensured its legitimacy and became organized. So, even FETÖ's changeable position like a chameleon tells us its Gladio and fascist essence. In this historical process, FETÖ carried out various bloody acts, which it landed upon the structures and powers it targeted, through its dark shadowy structure within the state. The most famous and the most shocking of them is undoubtedly the assassination of Hrant Dink.

Today, all the connections and purposes of this bloody fascistic organization are evident. Those who take a closer look at the organization leader Gülen, who is as dangerous as he is a lunatic, will understand that he is not much different from the inhumane fascistic leaders who left their mark on history such as Adolf Hitler or Benito Mussolini. Gülen is a dangerous and bloody-minded fascist who has hissy fits, lives in a state of extreme agitation, sees hallucinations and considers himself a superhuman being, like all fascist leaders humanity has seen in the past.

If Hitler lived today, would the U.S. harbor him like this? Then, why does it harbor Gülen? Not only Turkey, but the whole world and humanity must answer these questions. Defending Gülen and his fascistic organization means aiding and abetting a crime against humanity.

Today, it is obvious which capital powers support this organization and what the organization aims to do both in Turkey and in the world in economy and politics. The Gülenist global terrorist organization is one of the last bloody tools of reactionary capital powers in Turkey and in the world. FETÖ is a current fascist residual of the dark side of the 20th century, which was full of fascistic acts and two world wars. Today, supporters of this terrorist organization should also be considered as the supporters of the reactionary German capital and economy of the 1930s, the reactionary financial capital and the impoverishing and exploitative statist economies of dictatorial economies such as fascist Augusto Pinochet's regime in Chile. This is because the capital behind FETÖ is the capital of these. Now, however, they are nothing but a bloody piece of cloth in the garbage can of history. The people of Turkey taught the latest and the most unforgettable lesson to them on July 15, 2016.
