Turkey's daunting tasks

Since the beginning of the history of colonization, Western powers have been dominating the world uninterruptedly. The Western domination that peaked in the World War I frustrated the majority of the endeavors made for independence.

Although the form of the Western hegemony changed continuously, the superiority that was achieved through wars has been going on via economic and cultural colonization.

Indeed, the Cold War and the infamous political conflict between the left and the right did not go beyond being an argument for Western colonization.

The states that went back and forth within the frontline of Western hegemony changed the leadership status of the Western hegemonic bloc from time to time, while the true independence, let alone growth, of any one of the Muslim countries has been considered a vital problem for the continuity of Western domination.

The war between Iraq and Iran, the war in Afghanistan, the civil war in Beirut, the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, the civil war in Syria, the dominance of illegal organizations in Africa, the tiring out of Pakistan, the coup d'état in Egypt, and many other occupations and internal disorders in the Muslim world were all intentionally inflicted calamities, which aimed at destroying the Islamic East in general and the Middle East in particular as parts of an immense chaos scenario.

During the Justice and Development Party's (AK Party) 13-year political rule, Turkey's economic development, democratization, strengthening of civil space, completion of state investments and continuous pattern of economic growth have given the state the opportunity to stand on her own two feet.

While the world's giants were wrestling with economic stagnation due to the global economic crisis, Turkey's unique economic performance emerged as one of the dynamics that triggered the Arab Spring. Turkey's new willingness to have a say in regional issues, as a country with an invaluable and irreplaceable imperial legacy, was met with resistance by the present world order.

Before Turkey attempts to take vital moves in the international arena, her greatest project was to clean her own house by resolving the long-standing Kurdish question. Yet, such an essential and indigenous initiative has been sabotaged by Turkey's competitors in the international world order.

As the culture of colonization, which clearly anticipated the positive results of such a course of events for Turkey, creates daunting tasks for the Turkish state both in the domestic and foreign realms, it is indispensable to develop policies accordingly:

1. As in the most critical periods of Turkey's history, the polarization of society into two strictly-opposed sides and an extreme enmity towards the political power constitute the main columns of the game of tension, which has been well-known from the Empire to the Republic. Thus, the author of the present situation is not the political power per se; but, relieving the tension and making the country governable, which are the principal tasks of the political power.

2. The civil war in Syria has been used as a lever to break the winds of the new Turkey. Despite the fact that the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) trouble negatively affected Turkish politics and that Turkey adopted a political attitude in favor of the oppressed people of the region, a peculiar syndrome that associates Turkey with illegal organizations, predominates the international arena, including Turkey's allies.

3. As Turkey's international and regional competitors grasp the prospective results of the completion of the resolution process, the PKK's terror was intentionally re-inflamed. The temporary results that emerged from the civil war in Syria in general, and Kobani in particular, lie behind the PKK's suicidal decision to violently end the resolution process. Now, it is inescapable to finish the conflicts and to re-embrace the peace process as one of the most invaluable projects in the history of Turkey.

4. Serious attempts are being made to discredit Turkey, particularly in the United States. Various political powers from Israel, Iran and Germany to the PKK and the Gülen Movement all aimed at disgracing Turkey's political prestige in the international arena. Recently, a famous chancellor of a well-known university in the West attempted to understand and explain Turkey's so-called support for ISIS, while Turkey's bombing of ISIS's military fronts and positions hardly changed the predominant perception in the international arena.

5. Finally, internal disorders in the region, which threaten to weaken Turkey's economic growth, appear as a serious danger for Turkey's economic success.

As too much self-confidence may prevent the analysis and resolution of these problems, Turkey requires preparing an exit plan to overcome all the aforementioned troubles.
