For those who think Kılıç will be their savior

No wonder Turkey's opposition simply cannot produce a viable alternative to the AK Party government. It is simply helpless in producing innovative and appealing policies to counter the AK Party rule so much so that it simply grasps any ray of hope that comes its way. This time that ray of hope is the Constitutional Court Chief Justice Haşim Kılıç.The chief justice has made a couple of statements and led some of the verdicts of the Constitutional Court in such a way that the opposition again misread the whole deal and now feels Kılıç has turned against the government and may be their source of salvation.Kılıç has always been a man of principle. He has always held the rule of law and supreme values in high esteem and has not budged in defending them. That was so 10 years ago and that is so today. That was so when he saved the ruling AK Party from closure and that is so when he says things that do not go down well with the government and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.The truth is always the truth. What is right is always right and what is wrong is always wrong. So Kılıç should be respected for defending what he feels is right but we can always beg to differ. If he feels that justice was not served at the Sledgehammer military coup case against former generals and that a retrial is necessary then he will only be acting with the same notion that steered him to oppose the closure of the AK Party and nothing else. The fact that he is close to retirement may make him a bolder person but that too should not be overwritten.Yes, we do feel that it was not appropriate for him to lambast the government in front of the hierarchy of the state and treat the prime minister and his ministers like children to be punished, especially as he was playing host at the anniversary of the Constitutional Court. There is no one in this country that does not agree that the judicial system is in shambles and has to be seriously overhauled. But there is a way and place to say things. So if the opposition is trying to create its own hero from the ranks of the conservatives, Kılıç is not the person. They are clearly barking up the wrong tree. Let no one forget that this is the same chief justice who not so long ago was being dismissed by main opposition leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, saying, "He does not even have a law education."
