US and UN action, too late for Gaza children

The United States and the United Nations have brokered a 72-hour cease-fire in Gaza that will hopefully become permanent and help Palestinians try to rebuild from the ashes that have been left from Israel's cruel assault on the people of Palestine. From the very start, Israel called it an act of self-defense and in the name of "defending its people" conducted an incredible act of genocide, butchering children on a daily basis, as the world looked on. Actually, the world did not look on. There were those who actively encouraged Israel. The U.S. actively helped Israel to continue its attacks and a few days ago the U.S. Congress once again had the audacity to call the assaults an act of self-defense. The Pentagon replenished Israel's ammunitions arsenal, depleted from the shelling of mainly Palestinian women and children and only a few Hamas fighters. The British prime minister applauded Israel as the carnage continued.Israel was encouraged to carry on these senseless and inhumane assaults against Palestinians. Only Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan raised hell and demanded an end to the violence and behind the scenes used his diplomatic power to twist some arms to help broker the current cease-fire.No wonder there is a growing wave of anti-Americanism in the world. The toll is shattering. Gaza has been reduced to rubble. No schools, no hospitals no mosques. No nothing. Its infrastructure, including its electricity system, is nonexistent. We can't even bring ourselves to report the carnage as Israel repeatedly bombed U.N. schools, children playing in playgrounds or at the beach. Hospitals and mosques were frequently bombed and hundreds of children dead. More than 1,500 Palestinians, mainly civilians have died and thousands are wounded. Israel had the technology to differentiate between militants and civilians and especially children but killed them indiscriminately. If these are not acts of genocide what are?Israel seems to have fallen into the hands of bloodthirsty zealots and in the name of "self-defense" have continued their campaign of wiping out Palestinian existence from the face of the Middle East. Someone should tell these people that their course of action will only lead to disaster in the state of Israel, but not its survival. Killing Palestinian civilians is self-defeating, only sowing the seeds of hatred and revenge that in the long run will only create greater problems for Israel. There are people in Israel who are aware of this but their voices are drowned out in the euphoria of Israeli activists who are cheering the death of every Palestinian child. Even Western journalists have revolted after witnessing this cheering and euphoria.Turks are angry. They are angry because the West, which speaks of high ideals and values, just watched as Israel butchered Palestinians. Turks are angry because the U.S., which is the supreme power in the world, has ended up being an accomplice of Israel in the murders of Palestinian women and children. Turks are angry with the silence of the Arabs as their Palestinian brothers and sisters were systematically butchered. Turks are also angry seeing the ineffectiveness of the U.N.Despite all this, Turks have tried to do the best they can to collect and send aid to Palestinians and are using its diplomacy to help broker a cease-fire. It is clear that Turkey will lead all the efforts to rebuild Gaza from its current ashes.
