Professor Dr. Mehmet Görmez, the head of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (DİB), is now getting his fair share of the smear campaign that has targeted the government, supporters of the government and last but not least, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Those behind this smear campaign are using the media under their control to spread disinformation that will not only hurt a state official but will also cripple an institution that is making an impact on the global scale thus enhancing Turkey's position in the world.They claim that the head of the DİB ordered the purchase of a super Mercedes car to be used for official purposes and the payment was made by the Foundation of Religious Affairs of Turkey. They claim the foundation was also ordered to pay for the purchase of several other cars for top bureaucrats at the office of the head of the DİB.Even a quick check of the claims against Görmez and the Office of the Presidency of Religious Affairs would have shown that the reports are baseless and clearly an act of sabotage, yet those who decided to present them to the public did not even bother to do this. You only had to look at the information that is available to the public to understand that this is part of a disinformation campaign. The official car purchase for Görmez and the money for all the other cars bought for the officials of the DİB did not come from the funds of the foundation which collects donations and does charity work but from the budget of the DİB. The other official cars purchased besides the Mercedes are not luxury cars and the Mercedes did not cost TL 1 million ($434,972).Those opposing the government tried to kill three birds with one stone.They wanted to portray Görmez as a state official who turns a blind eye to irregularities thus capitalizing on the current opposition effort to create an image that there is widespread corruption, favoritism, nepotism and irregularities in the government and bureaucracy. Because Görmez leads the efforts of the DİB to do a major clean up in Islam thus eradicating the massive effects of ignorance and bad will of those who want to use Islam for their ulterior motives. Görmez has led the DİB into a brand new era thus making Turkey the center of attraction as the leading country in the world that is upholding true Islamic values, thus he is also regarded as the leading Muslim official worldwide. It seems some people decided that this should not be so…The second reason why this campaign came about is because some people are highly uneasy with the massive and genuine charity work that the Foundation for Religious Affairs of Turkey is undertaking in about 100 countries throughout the globe. They see that this is not only enhancing the image of Turkey throughout the world but it is also enhancing the good name of Islam and they cannot bare this as their real aim is to defame Islam in all corners of world and build a negative image through entities like the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and spread Islamophobia.Görmez and the DİB of Turkey has not only enhanced the good name of Islam but they have also brought about the goodness of Islamic civilization thus bringing together Islamic communities and leading scholars under several summits in Istanbul from Africa to Latin America, thus helping to unite the world Muslims. This is an intolerable situation for the enemies of Islam. Those who are trying to be a part of the smear campaign against Görmez and the DİB of Turkey should see clearly that they are playing into the hands of those opposing our religion, provided of course that they are not actually the agents of these forces.Görmez, the DİB and the Foundation of Religious Affairs deserve a great applause for everything they are doing to enhance Islam and the cause of the Almighty. They do not deserve such a misguided and dismal smear campaign.
