The office of the head of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (DİB) is an important as well as a unique position in Turkey. It is a prestigious state office in one aspect but also a semi-autonomous position that allows the head of the DİB to have an independent say on religious issues.The DİB has been the center of controversy between people of religious sensitivities and those who support the secular system. But despite all this, the DİB has remained a bastion of integrity and honesty thus remaining one of the few establishments in Turkey that the masses cherish and have a deep respect for.In recent years, the DİB has become the bright face of Turkey, not only promoting true Islamic values, but creating a respectable place for Islam in the contemporary world.The DİB, through its huge structure at home and abroad, has preached the peaceful, compassionate, merciful and graceful face of Islam. The DİB is represented in more than 100 countries with its representations thus winning the hearts of millions of people around the globe, not only with its religious services and educational activities, but also with its charitable work.Thus besides everything else, the DİB has become a successful soft-foreign policy power for the government.If today millions of Muslims do not opt into extremism or radicalism, if so many people do not fall for the propaganda of al-Qaida or the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and similar others in Africa, it is because of the teachings of the DİB. These extremists cannot exist if the DİB is there. Thus it is to the benefit of European countries to cherish and cultivate the DİB instead of trying to undermine it, like the Islamic laws recently adopted in Austria designed to harm the DİB.It is also sad that some local politicians have been exploiting the DİB in their election campaigns.So it is clear that those who are against Islam and against Turkey have joined forces in a massive smear campaign against the man who made the DİB what it is today. They are using the media in this smear campaign, making all kinds of ridiculous statements that only serve those who are unhappy with the good work the DİB is carrying out.Associate Professor Mehmet Görmez, the head of the DİB, is at the center of the smear campaign. They have insulted him, ridiculed him and violated his private life. This is all indecent and only serves the enemies of Turkey and Islam.It is clear that those who do not want the DİB to launch a campaign showing the true essence of Islam and thus counter Islamophobia in the West, those who do not want Görmez to make headway with his quest to build a new world order based on the Islamic morals and rules of coexistence, this serving world peace and understanding, those who want al-Qaida and ISIS to prevail, those who want to exploit Islam to their own benefit, like the Gülen Movement, are all targeting Görmez.It is high time Görmez hit back. Görmez is the architect of the modern face of the DİB. He remained silent until now with the maturity of a wise man and scholar of Islam. But enough is enough. It is time to hit back and Görmez is doing this in style.
